Do you know what the signs and symptoms of periodontal disease are? Periodontal disease, also commonly referred to as gum disease, is an oral infection in your mouth that often takes place over a long period of time. Although it is common, it can be quite serious and lead to gum destabilization and eventual tooth loss.

Gum disease is an infection of your gum tissue and exists in a variety of stages, with each one being more severe than the next. An early stage of gum disease is known as gingivitis. In the early stages, some of the first symptoms being to appear. Protecting your mouth from gum disease begins with checking for its common signs.

If you have gum disease, your gums may often appear swollen or extremely sensitive. If they hurt to the touch or bleed easily, you may have gum disease. Also look at the lengths of your teeth to see if your gums appear to be pulling back away from them. When you brush and floss, do your gums bleed easily? Do any of your teeth feel loose or wobbly? Do you constantly have bad breath no matter how often you try to treat it? Many of the symptoms are all signs of gum disease and should be treated by your dentist immediately.
